The only problem the Savage has with long trips is that you have to stop for gas twice a much as anyone else. Usually everyone needs a stretch break at that time so it's really not that bad. I've taken my first bike, a Yamaha 250, on a all day trip and it could handle it. The Savage can handle it too. I don't have any problem with my Savage going 65-70. I don't go any faster than that so I don't see it as a problem. I've taken it on the highway and had no problem with that either. I do have a 5 speed.
